NOTE: If you performed a MASTER CLEAR mode 3, remember that for lines to be accessed or work

correctly Originate and Answer On Lines and Line Group Access must be enabled with the lines and

line groups being used. All three features are located in Class of Service Programming.

Exercise Setup

Task Comments

1. Program circuits 4, 5, 6, and 7 on the T-1 board as

E&M tie lines.

Since we are using T-1 lines, make sure that the slave

system has a sync card. Make sure to strap the MAUX

board for the Primary T-1 correctly. No synchronization

may result in failed calls.

2. Select Direct as the connection mode. Use Default

Wink Start signaling.

3. Program all extensions to have access to the tie

lines. This can be done using any of the methods

mentioned in this section.

When you are finished, SAVE your database so you

don’t lose your changes.

Testing the Setup

Task Expected Results

1. Save the database (if you haven’t already) and

restore it to the system you have been assigned.

Your changes will be loaded into the system, the system

will reset after completion, and you’re ready to test.

2. Make a tie line call from one system to the other by

accessing a tie line and dialing an extension number

at the far end system.

The telephone should ring at the far end system. If the

call does not go through, check the T-1 cable for

connectivity, and verify that the same circuits were used

between the systems. A symptom of a lack of

synchronization or similarity in programming may be an

incessant ringing.
