On-line and Off-line Programming

• VMMI releases 12A and later allow you to program on-line through direct (on-site) or remote

(off-site) connections between a PC running VMMI and the Comdial system.

• You can also program off-line meaning that, without being connected to the system, you can

create a database on a desktop or laptop, save (Archive) the database, then later upload

(Restore) the database to a Comdial system when you connect into it directly.

Platform and Feature Set Translation

• VMMI allows you to translate both the platform type and feature set of a saved database. For

example, if customers purchase an FX II 96 port system with 16A software, but wanted to

upgrade to an FX II 480 port system with 17A software, they could maintain the

programming in their current database by translating it to a new database.

• Programming that was done for the older system is translated and modified to the new

hardware and software setup the customer bought from Comdial.

• The following details are the restrictions inherent in platform and feature set translation. The

information below is true for both the DXP/Plus and FX family communication systems.

* You can only translate a platform within its own family.

Example: FX family systems cannot translate to DXP/DXP Plus family systems or vice versa.

* The technician can only translate platforms up in port size. There is no way to

translate a higher port size system to a smaller one.

Example: You can convert an FXT 224 port system to an FX II 480 4 cabinet system, but not the

other way around.

* Once the technician has translated the feature set to the highest revision level

possible, there is no way to translate it to a lesser revision level.

Example: After the technician translates the 13A feature set to 16A, he cannot re-translate it

back to 13A.
